Eye Of God

“This piece was painted live in front of a dinner theater audience. It was a heavy experience—at first I painted it to look very cosmic, glittery & angelic. Then after dinner I went up to the canvas with bright red paint I painted a big V for Vendetta symbol & destroyed it in front the crowd. They gasped as a curtain fell -suddenly I was a silhouette & they could tell I was transforming it, but could only see the silouette of what I was doing—at the same time, projected on that curtain was a video exposing the unspeakable cruelty & oppression of modern day society. The video ended with hopeful solutions and in the end the transformed piece was reveled. This piece is painted with a substance that reacts under blacklights. By day the piece is stunning/by night under blacklights it comes alive. Everyone who looks at it “sees something” --as I painted this, I prayed pretty much the whole time. The words Eye Of God kept repeating in my head. The experience was powerful & magical.” D.A.

Mother Africa pt1

I have always felt a deep respect for Africa as the cradle of civilization. I also carry a deep compassion for the continent—its oppression and exploitation. I am pained by the suffering of its people, and inspired by their ability to survive. Pt 1 of this 2 part series explores the dry baron parts of the country. As I was painting I was thinking about slavery, genocide, hunger & thirst. I was plagued by the suffering, especially of the children, while I worked on that piece” Daniela Aum

Mother Africa pt2

In part two I decided to focus my intention on the solutions, on Africa's potential. You will see that part one is mostly browns & yellows, part 2 comes alive in colour. As I painted this piece, I listened to African music and was inspired by the soulful joyous rhythms, vibrant colours and stunning nature. In the top right corner is my wish for positive industry & economic growth. I wish much peace & prosperity to my African brothers & sisters & I celebrate that wish in this piece.” Daniela Aum

Home Sweet Home

this piece has no message-no inspiration. This piece was a blissful moment in time. One night I got up at about 3am and started painting until 9am completely non-stop & uninterrupted. It was a heavenly night, with my favorite music on my headphones, stoned on cannabis, just me, my cats & the moonlight. I had SUCH a good time painting this & its one of my favourite pieces! Perfect stillness, perfect peace, elated bliss. I was in art heaven when I painted this” Daniela Aum

Root Spiral

A fun paint! I decide to explore the colour red & its medicinal power through the root chakra—a powerful painting experience. I didn't intentionally paint a spiral. I slathered a brush with white paint & spun it not really knowing what would happen—i was shocked to see a spiral! It almost spooked me—like a BIG sign—so appropriate!!!” D.A.

Contact High

I have a friend that was exploring Entheogenically with a combination of substances. This brave cosmonaut allowed me to sit close to him & paint while he sat there meditating. I hadn't touched either substance—just a bit of cannabis—but the contact high I got off this person was OUT OF THIS WORLD....WOW!!!!!! it was AWESOME to paint to that!!!!!!!!!!” D.A.

Gaza

During the raids I was sickened-literally. I dry heaved every morning and all I could hear were terrified anguished screams of children. It was eating me alive and I painted through it the last three days or so of the raid. The Gaza was being stomped on, I painted that piece mostly with my feet.” D.A.

Anguish

This piece was painted live. My audience didn't know, but I had just received some AWFUL news and was devastated and very worried for a loved one while being betrayed by that loved one at the very same time. The venue was disappointing, and the owner made an already hell-ish night absolute TORTURE for me. I was HEARTBROKEN & WORRIED under EXTREME stress the entire time I painted that. It was absolute anguish—in front of an audience. That night had lasting repercussions and a catalyst to me changing my name. Painting that piece was a very profound experience & a great professional success especially considering the pressure I was in while painting it. This piece is one of the most 'important' pieces in my professional/artistic history so far” D.A.
